Budapest, Brussels & Prague!
The final three. Not exactly the final three cities I visited on my trip, but the final three which I'm colliding into a short & sweet summary blog.
Budapest, Hungary
Some things to consider: my time here was under 48 hours and felt like it was less than 24. I was exhausted from two weeks of Norway and Ukraine, and starting the leg of my trip where I'd be on a plane almost every other day.
All things considered, this was one of my favourite cities. Some Hungarian home-cooked meals. A morning in the Gellert spa. Lots of neon lights in random streets. A city-wide view from a ride on the Budapest Eye during sunset. And then, the trip was over.
Certainly not enough time for a city so unique and lovely. That being said, if anyone ever finds themselves with a spare plane ticket to Budapest, I know a girl who would love to take it.
Brussels, Belgium
Sometimes, when you visit a new place, you're filled with an immediate craving to come back and see it all. It feels like you left seeing only a few pieces of the puzzle and you're not sleeping at night knowing that there's more to get done there. Other places, you spend time, learn the city, and when all is said and done, you're content with what you have seen. Happy and filled with fun, but content. For me, Brussels was one of these cities.
Like Budapest, I only spent about two days here. And as I had promised to myself, I made this leg into my true, full-out food adventure. The home of the french fry (really, google it). The strongest, most random flavours of the world's favourite beers. Belgian chocolate. Belgian chocolate on Belgian waffles.
Aside from working on my extra-high calorie intake, I also snuck in a quick, free walking tour. For anyone, anywhere these are so worth their value! The concept is always to pay what you feel the tour is worth, making it work for any budget (keeping in mind the tour guide's only pay is those tips at the end). And in those three hours, we saw enough famous streets, statues and peeing baby boys to last a while.
Prague, Czech Republic

I don't mean to cause war by saying this, but this is the real Paris of Europe. In all fairness, I didn't do much on this trip besides walking and eating. And well, I did a lot of walking and eating. Walking through Prague makes you feel like you're walking through a castle. A really, big castle with a lot of people, especially considering it was January. The Prague Bridge connects the two areas of the old town, meaning with a good set of runners, you can make it from one area to the other in one day! Mind you, two or three days is definitely better so you can dip into the millions of cute shops.
Plus, walking helps you build up your appetite for endless tunnel cones and dumplings. Two highlights, which paired with a Czech beer, absolutely cannot be missed. Under any circumstances.
My stay in Prague was just as short and sweet as the other two, but it's sweet charm made it a perfect end to my month-long mission across Europe.
Until the next post,
Al
